FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

Dr. HLIS relocated his practice in February 2001 to a newly built, 4,000 square foot office area located next to STAPLES at Commerce Square Shopping Center, Brownwood, Texas.   Dr. HLIS and his highly trained staff uses sophisticated technology and equipment to provide patients quality eye care and materials.   Dr. HLIS provides complete vision analysis of children and adults as well as occupational and sports vision problems.

LIONS CLUB PROVIDER

Dr. HLIS has been a supporter of the Brownwood Lions Club since February 2001 by providing gratis comprehensive eye examinations and spectacles to disadvantaged children.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY

High Definition - Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) may be used to diagnose, treat and manage glaucoma years prior to vision loss.  It may also be used to detect diabetic macular edema and wet macular degeneration.  

COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMINATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING:

Each examination will vary from patient to patient depending on the health of the individual and their visual needs. Typically, it may include:

* Medical History

* Measurement of visual acuity

* Auto-Refraction and Auto-Keratometry

* Binocular Visual Assessment

* Pupil dilation (to evaluate the back part of the eyes, Dr. Hlis

   will perform binocular indirect ophthalmoscopy)

* Slit-Lamp Microscopy of the front part of the eye.

* Intraocular pressure

* Blood pressure

* Visual field test (Frequency Doubling Technology N-30 screening for

   Glaucoma and other neuro-pathologies)

* Analysis

* Diagnosis

* Prescription (lenses and/or medicine)

* Prognosis

 

OPTICAL SERVICES

Commerce Square Optical has a dispensary with over 1,000 fashionable frames as well as safety eyewear.  Our optical laboratory has the latest in equipment to not only fabricate your glasses, but to maintain and repair them should they become broken or damaged. Our lab can tint, coat, harden and edge spectacle lenses. We are able to provide you with any frame or lens design that is found in the world. Our opticians have been certified by the American Board of Opticians and are able to adjust and fit your glasses for maximum comfort and vision. 

Most single vision spectacles can be made within twenty (20) minutes! An ABO certified optician is available during all business hours (including lunch) to answer any technical question you may have in regard to spectacles, contact lenses, or to make necessary frame adjustments and repairs to your spectacles. 

 

CONTACT LENSES

 

Dr. HLIS will fit, evaluate and prescribe contact lenses tailored for each patient.  Additionally, he may prescribe custom designed lenses for special needs as well as special eye problems. Specialized fittings may include Monovision, Multi-Focal (Bifocal) contact lenses, astigmatism (Toric) contacts, Multi-Focal Toric contacts and Rigid Gas Keratoconic fits. Our staff is able to answer many of your questions and are available for ongoing contact lens instruction and training.  Outside contact prescriptions are welcome as well.

 

URGENCY SERVICES

Eye injuries and infections are best handled immediately. If a delay occurs, recovery is more difficult and sometimes permanent eye damage will result. Dr. HLIS is available to established patients on a 24/7 "on-call" basis.  To protect your eyesight, call anytime you think an eye urgency is apparent.  All other patients should go immediately to their nearest Hospital's Emergency Room.

INSURANCE PLANS

Our office is aware of the financial burden that may be caused by medical care. Many of our patients are retired and on a fixed or limited income. Therefore, our billing policy remains the same. Our office accepts Medicare assignment and, as a courtesy, we will bill your secondary insurance carrier for you. If you are a member of a managed care HMO or PPO please contact our office to establish plan participation. As you may know, these plans change frequently and this is the most accurate way to verify if our doctors are providers.

Dr. Hlis accepts most major insurance plans but not limited to the following:  Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Vision Service Plan (VSP), Medicare, Aetna, Old Surity Life Insurance Company, HealthSmart, and GEHA.

 

TYPES of PAYMENT ACCEPTED

We accept cash, personal checks, American Express, MasterCard, VISA, and Discover.
